As it passes through town, I always think about those travelers of yesteryear – how they dressed and what they carried. The No. 3 Leather Grip Bag is the result of that reflection.

Superbly handmade in our Col. Littleton Workshop, the No. 3 Grip really qualifies as Americana art; yet, it is very functional and serviceable. The beauty is in the details. Solid copper tubes and solid brass fixtures set it apart from any piece of luggage you’ll ever see. The No. 3 may be carried by either the leather handle or the adjustable shoulder strap which adjusts from 39 ½” – 47 ½”. Straps on the back secure your umbrella (umbrella not included).
Colonel has pulled out all the stops in creating this premium version of our always popular No. 3 Grip. The bag is a beauty to behold. Made of wonderfully textured, full-grain, rich Tobacco Brown American Buffalo which is dry-milled, making the bag soft and supple. Trimmed in our signature Vintage Brown polished American Steerhide. We’ve retained natural hide markings to add to the character of the bag. Solid brass hardware. The front brass pommel shield* is serial numbered, noting the exclusivity of the piece.

Littleton products go through rigorous testing and numerous quality inspections before being shipped to our customers. Should you receive a Col. Littleton product that is defective in materials or workmanship, you can count on us to make it right. Our guarantee is limited to the cost of the product itself. It also does not cover normal wear and tear. We feel if you just plain “wore it out,” you got your money’s worth. Also, we cannot be responsible for an item which has suffered through alteration, damage due to improper cleaning, improper use, mishandling or accident. If we made a mistake in personalizing your product or if the product is defective in materials or workmanship, of course we’ll replace it. Otherwise, personalized products are not returnable.
Leather is a passion for me. There are more kinds of leather and leather processing out there than you can shake a stick at. You can mold leather into just about any shape or form. You can make every hide look just alike. You can dye it green, blue or even pink. You can apply a finish, coat it, spray it or make it look slick and shiny. That’s not what we’re about at Col. Littleton. To me the beauty is in the naturalness of the leather. People always comment to me about the special “feel” of our leather and how it becomes even more beautiful after it has some wear on it. It’s all about our leather process. When you buy Col. Littleton leather goods, you’re buying, for the most part, full-grain American vegetable-tanned steerhide that has received a minimum of alteration. We don’t apply a finish to hide character markings. The way I see it, every marking tells a story and covering them robs the piece of its life and character.
I see a real resurgence in the country today for products made in America. Our focus is to design and create products that speak to the time-honored traditions that have made this country great such as handmade craftsmanship, authentic rich leathers and quality workmanship. I recently purchased the No. 3 Buffalo Grip Bag from Colonel Littleton, and it has quickly become one of my favorite travel companions. The bag draws compliments wherever I go—it’s that stunning. Due to its unique, tapered design at the top, packing horizontally rather than vertically is essential; otherwise, it won’t close properly if overfilled. Initially, the old-school clasp system might seem challenging, but once mastered, it’s genuinely enjoyable and satisfying to use. The buffalo leather itself is remarkably thick, luxurious, and feels fantastic to the touch. Additionally, working with Joyce and Tina over the phone was a delightful experience, highlighting the Colonel’s team’s commitment to helpfulness and customer satisfaction. They’re both absolute gems. Highly recommended!

The workmanship and quality of this bag is excellent. A real work of art. I have purchased numerous Col Littleton items and have always been pleased.
The reason I rated a 4 rather than 5 is due to the colors are inaccurately depicted on the website. I loved the dark tobacco with the lighter leather trim as shown, but in reality the bag was very monochromatic with minimal contrast. Col Littleton graciously made an exchange, but with no noticeably improvement.
I ended up keeping the bag because I am very impressed with the workmanship.
It still has my recommendation… although I would visit the store or request a picture to insure you’re happy with the color.
